BATTERY LIFE
I ordered another one with Z-Wave and returned it because the light turned red after 15 minutes meaning low battery. Then I ordered this one (cheaper). The only difference is it did not come with the z-wave module because I did not pay for it. Everything looks identical which means there is a compartment for the module and I can buy one and add it on later if I want to. Again the same problem is the red light. Because I really like this lock, I kept it. It has been one month now, it is still locking automatically though it is suggesting that the battery is low (when the light is red). I will try to update the info about how long the battery actually last. If the battery can last for 3 months, I will raise its rating by 1 star. Even it can last more than 3 months, I still won't give it 5 stars because it gives out wrong info about the battery life.

Update 2/17/2013: the light is still red but it is still working without replacing the battery so far. Will update...

LOOKS:

The first thing that struck me about this deadbolt is how massive and impressive it looks. It's very heavy and feels like it's worth every penny it costs. Would-be thieves would probably be a little intimidated by it. At first I thought it might look a bit "clunky" on my door, but it simply looks like I have professional security in place. I've only had the unit about 3 weeks, but so far I am very happy with it. The satin nickel finish looks great with all the other nickel finishes in my home. This is key because some nickel can be quite warm-looking and some can be cold, so color is something I'm a bit picky about and this one lines up nicely.

INTSALLATION/USAGE:

Good quality lockset/, easy to install
I bought the Yale YRD210-ZW-ORB Real Living Electronic Push Button Deadbolt" from Amazon Warehouse Deals, where it was marked "Good" condition. When it arrived, it took me about 30 minutes to read through the instructions and install it on our front door. Anyone who has installed a lockset before should be able to do this without reading the directions, other than the programming. Pairing with my Alarm.com Z-Wave alarm system was easy.

The bolt is solid with a center core (which prevents sawing of the bolt). It says it is "anti-bump" but it has a normal cylinder without side pins or inside cuts - so I have doubts about it's anti-bump protection.

I also bought the touch screen version, and had to contact support for that device (this one worked properly out of the box). Yale support is pretty good, but call when you are around the lock if you have a problem. They may want to hear what it does when it fails.

The lock itself is well made, and looks good...

I had a simple $40 digital deadbolt before, bought from an auction website. Was a simple motorized rubber button keypad lock. It was cheap, functional and served its purpose for a couple of years. It started having clutch issues when locking and unlocking about the same time my front door started exhibiting some serious dry rot issues. The finish on both the lock and handle was worn and peeling so I figured I would give the new door all new hardware. So the quest began for a new lock. I figured there would be plenty of locks out there, but I found only a handful that came close to the design and features I wanted.

I narrowed it down to the Sunnect AP501 which ended up being discontinued/unavailable, the Samsung SHS3420 and the Yale YRD220. The three had similar price points but different features. The Sunnect and Samsung rely on RFID cards and have no key access...
