The lock arrived promptly and was quite easy to install. However, even after reading the instruction manual, I thought it was rather difficult to understand. When I pushed a button on the remote control, all the lock would do is "beep" 3 times at me. It turns out that this lock has "smarts" and must be "programmed" before it will work properly! My one disappointment (compared with the advertising) is that you can't actually "lock" or "unlock" the deadbolt version via the Nexia internet connection. You can "monitor" if it's locked or unlocked, and you can "activate" it such that a person standing at the door would be able to rotate the knob below the keypad to gain entrance if they did it within the 15- 30 second activation period. But you cannot lock the door without a person being there to physically turn the deadbolt knob, if you forgot to lock it before you left. Concept is great; execution is poor
I wanted to love this product. (now owned this lock for about 6 months) I have multiple people coming and going from my house on a regular basis and a keyless deadbolt is the answer. This particular unit is not.
The good:
-easy to use daily
-relatively easy to install and program
-multiple codes (many just have one)for different people so you can deactivate any you don't want to have access to your home anymore
The bad:
-battery life is short - goes through 4 AA batteries in less than 3 weeks
-rechargeable batteries you say - do not have enough power to make the lock work
-only one notification (a quick flash of red) that your batteries are dead
The ugly:
-has left me in the lurch several times where it just stopped working with brand new batteries. i.e., out of town for the weekend and the dog sitter can't get in!

I have posted positive reviews of the Smartkey Locks in other parts of Amazon and will soon be revising them from 4 or 5 stars to 1, unless Kwikset provides an acceptable remedy to the inherent security weakness of these locks that was exposed at the DefCon 2010 security hacking convention. Just Google "Kiwkset" and "Defcon" and you'll find links to the findings on the Internet. Essentially, a short key, a screwdriver, and about 30 seconds ... and this deadbolt can be opened. The reports came out around the end of July 2010 and the beginning of August 2010. [...] has an informative article and analysis that anyone considering this lock should read and consider before buying.

For me, the DefCon 30 demonstration of how any common criminal could defeat the Kwikset smartkey in 30 second shows that this product is not the security I thought I was buying.

Nightlock Security Lock Door Barricade Dark Bronze Finish

Great security device - a breeze to install
I bought three of these for three doors at a house I recently purchased that the existing doors and locks were in bad shape. The house has hardwood floors so it was a breeze to install them - just follow the simple directions included with the Nightlocks, or check out their video on YouTube. All you do is line the thing up on the floor, use a pen to mark the holes, drill pilot holes and then drive the screws in. It literally took 5 minutes for each one and I used a Sharpie, a 3/16" drill bit, and my cordless drill.

The Nightlock works excatly as described and is easy to deploy or remove when you need to open the door. I bought the dark bronze units and they match most oil rubbed bronze hardware. Obviously the portion in the floor is visible, even when the upper piece is removed, but it's pretty unobtrusive and even my wife doesn't mind it being there!

I really like this dead bolt, but seeing so many Bad reviews makes me worry a bit. I will update this review if any issues arise.
Installation was breeze! I actually had a old manual Kwikset dead bolt and the holes aligned up perfectly. I read the instructions and had No problems at all, setting the code was easy, works great! I like how I can leave the home and just press the LOCK button and it locks, then I come home and enter my code and it unlocks! I dont like using a Key on a dead bolt, just seems to take too long, this is great!
Quick Update: Many reviews have said the motor drive goes out early. I can happily report my unit is still working fine. The batteries wore out just one time. I highly recommend this dead bolt.

I recently moved from a home with a garage to a condo. The transition from garage door to keyed entry was causing me grief (yeah, yeah QQ moar I know). With this deadbolt I am able to open the door while carrying groceries from the car and lock it without keys when my family goes to the pool. The buttons seem sturdy (after about 2 months use) and the back-light makes it easy to use at night. The installation was easy and no different than a standard deadbolt. The remote key is excellent. My only gripe is that it only includes one remote key. It is not written in the description or on the packaging that only one remote is included. While the single remote is disappointing (and the reason for 4stars) it would not prevent me from buying this product again.

cheap price, works...some problems

i bought this thing and it was very easy to install. tried to rekey it off that bat and it locked up on me and no key would work. i am pretty confident i did it correctly as i also did 2 more just before this one without a hiccup. i had to put the locking mechanism in the (separately purchased) cylinder adjuster to fix it. no big deal, but kind of a pain, especially if you didn't also buy the adjuster.

the adjuster is $24 and this deadbolt is $14, but the lowe's much-better version of the deadbolt is only $32. you will have less problems with the lowe's version and i feel it is more durable. i used this on just an internal patio door, but overall would not recommend it on your front door and likewise would again urge you to go to lowe's to purchase the more durable one. amazon unfortunately just does not sell it.

Ordered the lock and installed about a month ago, so I have had a few weeks to test it out.

I had a simple $40 digital deadbolt before, bought from an auction website. Was a simple motorized rubber button keypad lock. It was cheap, functional and served its purpose for a couple of years. It started having clutch issues when locking and unlocking about the same time my front door started exhibiting some serious dry rot issues. The finish on both the lock and handle was worn and peeling so I figured I would give the new door all new hardware. So the quest began for a new lock. Nu-set KA Heavy Duty Night Latch

Striker is reversible, for outward opening doors

This lock is made for inward opening doors. I needed a lock for my workshop that has outward opening doors. In the item description there was nothing mentioned about being able to reverse the striker for outward opening doors, but I took a chance and ordered the lock. There is also nothing in the instructions about being able to reverse the striker either. I just removed the cover on the back of the lock, removed the spring tensioner (Very Easy), removed the striker and reversed it. That's it! I would have given this lock 5 stars, but the quality of this lock is not the best I've seen. Not as good as the Yale Lock it's a copy of, but the Yale is WAY too expensive. I've been using it about a couple of months now, without problem. I's worth the price.

It Works! And It Doesn't Screw into the Door!
I have been looking for a way to secure our apartment door without drilling into it since this is a temporary living situation. I worry that our children will open it when I am unaware. Also, sometimes I have to leave the apartment for a minute to run a bag of garbage down. Even if we had a chain or hook lock on the inside, I would be unable to fasten it from the outside!

If our doorknob were round, I could use a round doorknob cover that has worked well for us on interior doors in the past.
