Could be better...
I ordered this lock because it was by far the most aesthetically appealing lock I had found. I didn't want a keypad style because I had no interest in changing the codes or having people looking over my shoulder and watching me punch in the code. Additionally, I find the keypad locks kind of ugly and I don't want my house to look bad just so that it can be secure.

Before the pros and cons, here's a quick rundown of more information.
-The lock cylinder is a chinese knockoff of a Mul-T-Lock mortise cylinder, not a relatively standard KIK cylinder.
-The keys are chinese knockoffs of Mul-T-Lock dimple keys which are easy to make impressions of and to pick.
-The impact sensor is not a vibration or shock sensor
-The users are not easily added or deleted

Pros:
-The finish is nicely done
-The fingerprint scanner seems to be very accurate
-it kind of does what it's supposed to do

Quality Deadbolt and Easy to Install
This is a quality product that fits all standard size doors. I purchased this lock to replace a 3 year old electronic deadbolt that no longer worked. The small motor that turned the deadbolt became to weak to open the deadbolt completely. This deadbolt does not have a motor to turn the deadbolt. You must enter the code (you may choose your own 4 digit number) and manually turn the knob to engage/disengage the deadbolt. Based on my research, it is always the motor that fails, so that problem is eliminated with this deadbolt.
I had one minor problem. It was missing a screw that holds the interior cover. I contacted Schlage directly for a replacement but even if they don't respond the screw can easily be purchased locally so it is no major deal.

Love it, but wrong lock.

Bought a combo set years ago for the front door. Decided recently to put the same locks in the back, but couldn't find a set - entrance/deadbolt. Bought this deadbolt with and entrance knob w/lock thing the two were suitable matches. They weren't. The entrance know w/integrated lock was the same as my front door. The deadbolt wasn't. I had to research to find the correct matching deadbolt for the rear door and then order it. I am expecting it to arrive soon. In the mean time, I now have an extra deadbolt of no use to me. It's of the "Reserve" line of Baldwin entry locks while the front door had the "Classic" line. Both were indentified as "Traditional" lock sets, so buyer beware - do your homework!!!!

I've had this lock for about a month now. Installation was simple. The smartkey feature made it easy to re-key it to match my existing Kwikset locks.

Programming is fairly simple. You can program and operate it Without a Z-wave controller system. Without a Z-wave system you can manually program two access codes. With a Z-wave controller system you can program up to 30 codes. The lock creates an "Alarm" device as a sub-device on your Z-wave controller which relays a long list of events you can use as triggers.
For example, when a user code is entered to unlock the door and it's night, I have the entryway light come on. When the door is locked from the outside, I turn off all lights in the house.

You cannot operate it with a handheld controller. You need to have a computerized controller like Mi Casa Verde or Homeseer and your Z-wave interface or USB stick needs to have the latest firmware. I had to update my WDUSB-10 USB stick in order to make it work...

Emtek 8355 Satin Nickel - Low Profile Style Brass Modern Double Cylind

Only One Flaw!
I mounted a metal security door in front of a sliding storm door, I needed a very low profile dead bolt and this one only extends an inch toward the sliding glass door. This was important due to the lock locations crossing each other when sliding the glass door shut. I also like the fact this lock does not use the most common type key to open it. The only flaw is there is no lip protruding into the two and one half inch mounting hole on either side of the dead bolt, as a result, you can shift the lock around on the security door with a sharp blow from any heavy object you would care to use.I feel this could cause a weakening in the 2 bolts that hold the lock halves together, also the key mechanism and the possibility of prying the lock free with a heavy screw driver.That was the only flaw and I do have a secondary dead bolt from a different manufacturer mounted on the security door above this lock where I have more clearance.I am thinking about putting 4 dowel pins 90 degrees apart on...

It Works! And It Doesn't Screw into the Door!
I have been looking for a way to secure our apartment door without drilling into it since this is a temporary living situation. I worry that our children will open it when I am unaware. Also, sometimes I have to leave the apartment for a minute to run a bag of garbage down. Even if we had a chain or hook lock on the inside, I would be unable to fasten it from the outside!

If our doorknob were round, I could use a round doorknob cover that has worked well for us on interior doors in the past. However, our doorknob is a lever-type (and I wouldn't be allowed to switch knobs!). All the lever covers I've investigated either require damaging the door or have terrible reviews. We use a different product, the Door Monkey, on interior doors but it doesn't fit on the outside door and leaves the door a bit ajar.

Got this set after returning a Schlage Link set.
The profile of this unit that faces the outside of the door is comparable to regular deadbolts. The Schlage unit was too long and interfered with the storm door.
This unit is motorized; so it locks and unlocks itself; where the Schalge merely engaged / disengaged the knob for the deadbolt; so if paired with a Z-Wave controller; can lock and unlock the door on demand.
It provides full Z-Wave controls and reporting.
The keypad lights up when pressing the lock button. It works well in New England where temperatures go from sub-zero to 100s in direct sunlight.
The housing on the indoor side houses the controls and batteries. It's a bit thick like some hotel locks.
The mechanisms offers no resistance and works well with a regular key; it's not different than a regular deadbolt. On the inside you use the regular lever to lock/unlock.

I purchased four of these in 2002. All were carefully installed (the door must latch much be adjusted if required such that the deadbolt moves easily in and out of its strike) and are in light residential use - probably a max of 500 cycles on the most frequently used lock.

As of October 2004 two have failed; one mechanically (motor turns but deadbolt does not move) one electronically (no response to keypad or programming button).

These *are* convenient - but at a minimum I'd install two of these if there is any likelihood that you intend to use them in a keyless mode - that way you will still be able to use the other if one fails.
