Nice product, uses a Kwikset keyway
This deadbolt is nicely made and matches other Baldwin Venetian Bronze hardware nicely except for one thing. The SmartKey system, uses a KW1 (Kwikset) keyway. That means that if you have other existing residential Baldwin locks, which generally use a SC1 (Schlage) keyway, you'll end up with two keys to operate all of your locks. Apart from that, this is nice hardware, solidly made and the SmartKey system is quite convenient and as secure as a conventional five pin lockset.
If you want to get a keyway match for other Baldwin locks, the Schlage SecureKey system offers consumer settable rekeying using the SC1 keyway. Baldwin doesn't use that system probably because they're owned Black and Decker which also owns Kwikset.
In general, you can mix SmartKey (Baldwin or Kwikset), Kwikset and Weiser locks, OR Baldwin SC1 (non SmartKey), Schlage and Dexter locks, but if you cross over, you're carrying an extra key. Bottom line is, check your keyway before you add locks to...
